Questi dispositivi contengono due flip-flop D indipendenti a trigger di fronte di salita. Un livello basso sugli ingressi di preset () o clear () imposta o reimposta le uscite indipendentemente dai livelli degli altri ingressi. Quando e sono inattivi (alti), i dati sull'ingresso dati (D) che soddisfano i requisiti di tempo di setup vengono trasferiti alle uscite sul fronte di salita dell'impulso di clock. Il triggering del clock avviene a un livello di tensione e non è direttamente correlato al tempo di salita dell'impulso di clock. Dopo l'intervallo di tempo di mantenimento, i dati sull'ingresso D possono essere modificati senza influenzare i livelli sulle uscite.
