Questo flip-flop di tipo D a 16 bit con trigger di bordo è operativo a tensioni VCC da 0,8 V a 2,7 V, ma è progettato specificamente per un funzionamento a tensioni VCC da 1,65 V a 1,95 V.
L'SN74AUC16374 è particolarmente adatto per l'implementazione di registri buffer, porte I/O, driver di bus bidirezionali e registri di lavoro. Può essere utilizzato come due flip-flop da 8 bit o un flip-flop da 16 bit. Alla transizione positiva dell'ingresso di clock (CLK), le uscite Q del flip-flop assumono i livelli logici impostati sugli ingressi dati (D).
Un ingresso di abilitazione dell'uscita (OE) bufferizzato può essere utilizzato per posizionare le otto uscite in uno stato logico normale (livelli logici alti o bassi) o nello stato di alta impedenza. Nello stato di alta impedenza, le uscite non caricano né pilotano significativamente le linee del bus. Lo stato di alta impedenza e l'aumento della capacità di pilotaggio forniscono la capacità di pilotare le linee del bus senza componenti di interfaccia o pull-up.
OE non influisce sulle operazioni interne del latch. Dati vecchi possono essere mantenuti o nuovi dati possono essere inseriti mentre le uscite sono nello stato di alta impedenza.
Per garantire lo stato di alta impedenza durante l'accensione o lo spegnimento, OE deve essere collegato a VCC tramite una resistenza di pull-up; il valore minimo della resistenza è determinato dalla capacità di assorbimento di corrente del driver.
Questo dispositivo è completamente specificato per applicazioni di spegnimento parziale utilizzando Ioff. La circuiteria Ioff disabilita le uscite, prevenendo un dannoso ritorno di corrente attraverso il dispositivo quando è spento.
